“Jasper’s Inferno” (2024)
Acrylic on Canvas, 18x24in

Concept: Shortly after I visited, the local area and a significant portion of the town was lost to wildfires. The piece speaks to the danger of climate change, as well as the increased rate of natural disasters. Disasters are becoming more frequent as temperatures rise and fall. The colours within the piece  move from dangerous and intense, to subtle and tranquil. As the raging fire moves closer and closer, the peaceful mountain range is disturbed. Duality and climate change are at the core of this piece. The blurred brush strokes symbolize the haze of the distant fire, as well as the sublime connection between beauty and disaster.

Alt. Text: An abstract interpretation of the Rocky Mountains in Jasper, Alberta. There is a forest of trees in the background and telephone poles to the left. There is a cargo train to the right. The sky is orange and yellow, from a distant wildfire.
